Michigan football has secured top talent at the wide receiver position in recent years, and they may be adding another soon. Micah Gilbert, a four-star receiver from Charlotte Christian in North Carolina, released his top seven schools on Sunday, with Michigan among them. The Wolverines were joined by South Carolina, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Duke, and Pitt.
Gilbert’s size is a major asset for any team. He stands at 6-foot-3 and weighs 205 pounds. He is rated by 247Sports as the No. 199 player in the country, regardless of position. Gilbert also comes from a family with NFL ties, as his cousins Darrelle Revis and Jordan Whitehead both played in the league.
The presence of a top quarterback recruit from Charlotte could also be beneficial for Michigan’s chances with Gilbert. Five-star quarterback Jaydn Davis has already committed to the Wolverines, and he and Gilbert could form a dynamic duo for years to come.
Michigan has seen success with both four-star and three-star recruits at receiver, including Cornelius Johnson, Roman Wilson, and Ronnie Bell. Gilbert could be the next in a long line of talented pass catchers to don the maize and blue.
It’s unclear when Gilbert will announce his commitment, but his top seven schools suggest that he is still considering a number of options. Michigan will have to compete with several other schools, but their track record of success at the position could be a major selling point.
