In what was an exciting day for college football recruiting, here are the Power Five pledges that stood out the most:
First up, we have Georgia native Gibson, who has announced his commitment to Florida State. While listed as a receiver, the expectation is that he will be playing on the defensive side of the ball for the Seminoles while also playing baseball in Tallahassee. Gibson is a fast, sudden playmaker who fits the bill well for the Seminoles.
Next on the list is Arizona State’s commit, Tapley, a two-way athlete from Scottsdale who will have the option to play either receiver or safety. This is a huge get for Arizona State’s new coaching staff, who have made in-state recruiting a top priority.
Ohio State secured a commitment from receiver LeBlanc of Chattanooga, Tennessee. It’s expected that LeBlanc will be able to use his speed and size to his advantage and make a quick impact on the Buckeyes’ offense.
One of the more intriguing offensive line prospects in this class is Penn State commit, Brewer. The 6’5″, 300-pound standout out of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania moves well for his size and likes to use his physical nature to his advantage.
The three-star running back Dixon has committed to Ohio State, transferring from Millersburg West Holmes to Pickerington North for his senior season. Dixon is known to be tough to tackle and is phenomenal catching the ball out of the backfield.
Baylor commit Booker out of DeSoto, Texas is a high-three star linebacker that can do almost everything on the defensive side of the ball. The feeling is that he will make tons of plays and thrive in the Bears’ defense.
While slightly irregular in that he primarily plays in a funky two-back sort of flexbone attack, Virginia Tech commit Mason out of Mount Airy, North Carolina boasts impressive stats from last season, carrying the ball for over 2000 yards and 49 rushing touchdowns.
Iowa’s new running back commit, Williams from Saint John, Indiana churns out lots of yards and could prove to be the man for the Hawkeyes moving forward.
Rutgers’ first defensive commit, Pilof is long, can stretch plays to the sideline and is physical. It was his relationship with Rutgers’ coach Greg Schiano that led to his commitment.
Michigan State’s new commit, Broscious out of Baltimore, Maryland is a tough and hard-nosed player whose physicality should fit in well in East Lansing.
Arkansas commit Wilson is a playmaker with pop whose interceptions need to come down as he continues to grow in his high school career.
Wake Forest commit Turpin out of Ashburn, Virginia is a safety who is excellent at stepping in front of passes and could prove to be a steal for coach Dave Clawson.
Finally, Vanderbilt’s commit, Coleman brings a versatile, multi-sport background to the Commodores. While mostly playing quarterback last season, Coleman is a lengthy playmaker whose development into a true SEC receiving threat will be worth keeping an eye on.
