Louisiana-Lafayette wide receiver Michael Jefferson has been released from the hospital after being hit by a drunk driver in a multicar crash almost two weeks ago. Jefferson, who was expected to be selected in the 2023 NFL Draft later this month, is now expected to miss the entire 2023 season due to the accident, but his team believes he’ll be able to make his NFL debut in 2024. Jefferson’s lawyer urged people to remember that there is “absolutely no reason to drive impaired” in today’s age of Uber and Lyft. Jefferson’s car had to undergo multiple surgeries, although specifics about his injuries have not been released.
Police reported that the suspected impaired driver Michael Dunn crashed into Jefferson’s car head-on on April 9 in Mobile County, Alabama, and died at the scene. Jefferson’s car was subsequently hit by a third car. Jefferson led the team with 810 receiving yards and seven touchdowns on 51 catches with the Ragin’ Cajuns last season and was expected to be a mid-round pick in the draft this year. The exact standing of his draft prospects is currently unknown.
No information on the condition of the other drivers involved in the accident has been released.
