The University of Alabama’s football team has dropped to the sixth most popular team among college football fans in the United States, compared to second place last year, according to data from sports market research firm SBRnet and analyzed by the Center for Sports Analytics at Samford University and AL.com. The university has lost 700,000 fans between last year and this year, bringing the total number of fans supporting Alabama’s team to roughly 3.4 million, down from 4.1 million the previous year. Alabama remained the most popular team in the Southeastern Conference but was behind three Big 10 schools and two ACC institutions on the national list.
