Despite the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ poor performance in the 2021 season, their special teams has shown notable improvement in 2022. While kick returns were a recurring issue for the team in both seasons, placekicking with Timmy Bleekrode and punting with Brian Buschini saw much improvement. Punt returns were also relatively stable in 2022, although the majority of them ended up with Oliver Martin’s fair catches. The team’s new transfer players, Hohl, Pankratz, and Kemp IV, could help improve their performance further. Tristan Alvano, an incoming freshman, also poses a potential threat to Timmy Bleekrode as a kicker. Overall, the team’s special teams has shown potential for growth, given the right coaching and tactics.
