Jeff Sims looks like a strong candidate for the starting quarterback position in the Nebraska team, as he led three successful scoring drives in the spring game. The team’s issues with ball security and drops are areas where they need to improve, having lost six of seven fumbles in the game, and with two unacceptable dropped passes by tight end Arik Gilbert. The team also needs to recruit more offensive linemen to bolster their line, having struggled with some steep drop-offs in performance compared to the No. 1 team. The defensive front seven needs work and NU’s power run game and occasionally generated pass rush are areas where they must improve. Finally, there are opportunities for a few remaining defensive back spots for players such as Omar Brown, Myles Farmer, Marques Buford, and Corey Collier.
