The NCAA should either do away with one of the transfer portal windows for football or limit the number of times a player can transfer during the same academic year to one. Student-athletes such as former UNC safety Cam’Ron Kelly are increasingly transferring multiple times, which is contributing to uncertainty for college coaches and disrupting the high school recruiting process. Coach Jeff Brohm has used the portal to great effect at Purdue, but even he acknowledges that changes to the system are needed. The NCAA should reduce the number of transfer options to make both coaches and players more deliberate in making decisions.
