Former Auburn Quarterback Bo Nix Returns for Fifth Season at Oregon and Aims for Championship Win

April 24, 2023 by CFB Report Leave a Comment

Bo Nix, former quarterback for Auburn, is back for a fifth season of college football after transferring to Oregon in 2022, and he’s having fun playing college ball again. Nix set several career highs during his time with Oregon, including passing yards, passing touchdowns, rushing touchdowns, rushing yards, and completion percentage. He believes that a team’s success is often more essential for individual accomplishments than one realizes, and he aims to win a championship this year. Despite the late-season losses to Oregon State and Washington that kept Oregon out of the Pac-12 championship, Nix helped lead the team to the second AP top-15 finish in school history since 2014.

Nix’s skills have gotten him the nickname “Coach Bo” from Oregon’s offensive coordinator, Will Stein, who says that Nix knows the game like an offensive coordinator would. Nix has grown more involved in mentoring different position groups and is working with Stein for his fourth different playcaller in his college career. While he is competitive and has a perfectionist nature, he repeatedly asks questions and wants to be coached hard; the two are building trust between them.

Despite his ambitions of leading Oregon to its first Pac-12 championship since 2020 and possibly even its first College Football Playoff appearance since 2014, Nix’s motivation is not entirely outcome-based. He has returned to train and develop his skills, and if Oregon comes up short, he knows he did the best he could.
