Notre Dame had its 15th and final spring football game, with head coach Marcus Freeman addressing the media on the quarterback competition, among other topics. Freeman said there is still a quarterback battle, although he was pleased with Sam Hartman’s performance. Freeman stated he was impressed with freshman receiver Jaden Thomas’s 11 catches for 118 yards and said all three freshman receivers will likely play for the team this year. He was also happy with the progression of both the defense and offense over the course of the spring.
Freeman was also asked about the format of the Blue-Gold Game and said he wouldn’t change it, as it offers opportunities for all players to compete, including those who might not get the chance to play in a meaningful game. Additionally, Freeman discussed the performance of kicker Jonathan Doerer, who had a strong leg throughout spring practice. Finally, Freeman noted that he was sad to see former player Isaiah Pryor enter the transfer portal, as he believes a degree from Notre Dame is valuable.
