
The growth of the transfer portal and name, image, and likeness (NIL) deals is causing a shortage of quarterback prospects in the NFL draft. Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy noted how quickly quarterback options diminished when 20 senior quarterbacks decided to return to school or enter the transfer portal rather than declare for the NFL draft. One expert referred to the quarterback class as “anemic” and there are concerns that there won’t be enough quarterbacks in the late rounds to build an all-star game. Many of those who decided to stay committed to their college programs reportedly did so because of lucrative NIL deals.
