Former Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa has decided to enter the NFL draft after originally considering another year of eligibility. The news comes less than two weeks after he entered the NCAA transfer portal. It seems that Tagovailoa may have changed his mind about seeking another year of eligibility due to the uncertainty surrounding his request.

Rumors had swirled that Tagovailoa might join the Miami Hurricanes due to his brother, Tua, playing for the Miami Dolphins. However, the Hurricanes recently added two other quarterbacks to their roster, making it less likely for Tagovailoa to land there. With that option off the table, Tagovailoa has chosen to pursue his professional football career through the NFL draft.

Tagovailoa had a successful college football career, spending five seasons in the sport. He started his journey at Alabama in 2019, appearing in a few games but only throwing a pass in three of them. He then transferred to Maryland, where he started four games in 2020 and went on to start a substantial number of games over the next three years.

During his time at Maryland, Tagovailoa broke several records and became the Big Ten's career leader in passing yards. He also set program records for touchdown passes, total touchdowns, completion percentage, completions, and 300-yard passing games. His contributions helped the Terps qualify for their third consecutive bowl game, although he did not participate in the Music City Bowl.

As Tagovailoa enters the NFL draft, he is considered a late-round prospect and is ranked as the 11th-best quarterback and 186th overall player by Pro Football Focus. Mel Kiper Jr., an ESPN draft analyst, does not include Tagovailoa in his top 10 quarterbacks.

It will be exciting to see where Tagovailoa's football journey takes him next as he transitions from the college game to the professional level. As fans, we'll be eagerly awaiting the NFL draft in April to find out which team will give him the opportunity to showcase his skills on the field.
