Former South Alabama Safety Yam Banks Transfers to Ole Miss: Homecoming Season for Mississippi Native
Former South Alabama safety Yam Banks has announced that he will transfer to Ole Miss. Banks, a three-year starter at Husky safety for the Jaguars, has had an impressive career with 147 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 16 pass breakups, seven interceptions, and 2.5 sacks. As a native of Ridgeland, Mississippi, Banks will be returning home for his final season of eligibility. He was named a first-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection in 2022 and a third-team pick this past season.
Banks joins two other South Alabama starters from the 2023 season who have also decided to transfer to other schools. Wide receiver Caullin Lacy is heading to Louisville, while cornerback Marquise Robinson will be playing for Arkansas. Safety Jaden Voisin initially entered the transfer portal but ultimately decided to return to the Jaguars for his final season.
Ole Miss, with an impressive 11-2 record and a Peach Bowl victory in 2023, is adding Banks to their roster. The Rebels have been active in the transfer portal, bringing in players like defensive tackle Walter Nolen, wide receiver Juice Wells, and edge rushers Tyler Baron and Princely Umanmielen.
The South Alabama Jaguars finished the 2023 season with a 7-6 record, marking their second consecutive winning season. They achieved their first-ever postseason win with a dominant 59-10 victory over Eastern Michigan in the 68 Ventures Bowl.
