Meet De'Rail Sims, Tennessee Football's New Running Backs Coach with Impressive Track Record
The latest addition to Tennessee football's coaching staff is De'Rail Sims, who joins as the running backs coach. With experience at Cincinnati and Louisville, Sims brings a wealth of knowledge to the Vols' program.
During Sims' tenure at Cincinnati, the Bearcats boasted a top rushing offense, ranking fifth nationally in rushing yards. His track record of success includes leading rushing attacks that have consistently ranked in the nation's top 25.
Prior to his time at Cincinnati and Louisville, Sims held coaching positions at East Carolina, James Madison, and Carson Newman in East Tennessee. His diverse coaching background adds valuable experience to Tennessee's coaching staff.
Sims takes over from former running backs coach Jerry Mack, who recently departed to join the Jacksonville Jaguars. Mack played a key role in developing Tennessee's strong rushing attack during his time with the Vols.
Under head coach Josh Heupel, Tennessee has seen several offensive assistants leave for other opportunities. Sims' hiring marks the first time Heupel has looked outside the program to fill a coaching vacancy.
As Tennessee continues to finalize its coaching staff, the Vols are on the lookout for a new inside linebackers coach following Brian Jean-Mary's departure to Michigan. The coaching carousel highlights the competitive nature of college football coaching.
