MICHIGAN WOLVERINES STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACH MAKES SURPRISING MOVE TO THE NFL

Michigan Wolverines' strength and conditioning coach, Ben Herbert, is making his way to the NFL. Multiple reports on Monday confirm that Herbert has accepted the same role on Jim Harbaugh's staff with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Assistant strength and conditioning coach Justin Tress is expected to take over for Herbert, according to The Michigan Insider's Sam Webb.

This news comes as a surprise, as new Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore expressed optimism just two days ago about retaining Herbert in Ann Arbor.

Herbert has been with the Michigan football program since 2018 and was elevated to the program's associate head coach this past season. He is hailed as the "X-factor of our entire program" by Harbaugh, and his departure is a significant blow to the Wolverines' coaching staff.

It's interesting to note that strength and conditioning coaches in the NFL make considerably less money than their college counterparts. Herbert had just signed a five-year, $5 million contract with Michigan last year.

There is still work to be done for Moore and his staff, as they need to find replacements for positions such as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach, as well as a new linebackers coach.
