New Boston College Football Boss Bill O'Brien Announces Exciting Coaching Staff Additions
New Boston College football boss Bill O’Brien wasted no time in assembling his coaching staff. O’Brien, who recently took over as head coach of the Eagles, has been working diligently to secure deals with two key coordinators to join his team. According to reports from ESPN, he is looking to bring in Patriots tight ends coach Will Lawing as his offensive coordinator and Tim Lewis as his defensive coordinator.
Lawing has a long history with O’Brien, having worked together at Penn State, Houston, Alabama, and most recently with the Patriots. He served as the tight ends coach for the Texans in 2019 and 2020 before joining the Patriots last season.
Meanwhile, Lewis brings a wealth of NFL experience to the table. As a former first-round pick and cornerback for the Packers, he went on to become the defensive coordinator for the Steelers from 2000 to 2003 and then the Giants from 2004 to 2006. He has also served as a defensive backs coach for the Seahawks and 49ers, as well as coaching roles at SMU and Pitt.
In addition to these coordinators, O’Brien plans to promote BC assistant Jonathan DiBiaso to quarterbacks coach. DiBiaso previously worked as an analyst and assistant QB coach at BC and has experience at Pitt, Vanderbilt, and a previous stint at BC as a graduate assistant.
Another familiar face joining O’Brien's staff is strength coach Craig Fitzgerald, who has reportedly resigned from his position at Florida to join the Eagles. Fitzgerald has a long-standing relationship with O’Brien, having worked with him at multiple stops throughout their careers.
While O’Brien is bringing in new faces, he also plans to retain several holdovers from the previous coaching staff. Offensive line coach Matt Appelbaum, wide receivers coach Darrell Wyatt, and running backs coach Savon Huggins will all be staying on board.
With the coaching staff rapidly taking shape, Boston College football fans are eager to see what O’Brien and his team can achieve on the field. The upcoming season is sure to bring excitement and anticipation as this new era begins.
