Tragedy Strikes Wise High School After Memorial for Football Teammates

A tragic event unfolded at Wise High School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, following a vigil for three high school football teammates, including Vikings cornerback Khyree Jackson. Two individuals were shot, resulting in one fatality and one injury. Police recovered at least one gun from the scene.

The memorial was held a week after Jackson, AJ Lytton, and Isaiah Hazel were involved in a fatal car accident. Jackson, a rookie cornerback for the Vikings, was selected in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Hazel went on to play college football at Maryland and Charlotte, while Lytton played for Florida State and Penn State.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Jackson's vehicle was struck by another car, causing it to veer off the road and hit multiple tree stumps. The tragic incident has left the football community mourning the loss of these talented young athletes.

CBS Sports extends its deepest condolences to the families and friends of Khyree Jackson, AJ Lytton, and Isaiah Hazel. Our thoughts are with the entire football community as we come to terms with this heartbreaking loss.
