Why Coach Prime Deion Sanders Refuses to Make Off-Campus Visits in Unique Recruiting Approach

Deion Sanders, known as "Prime Time," has taken a unique approach to recruiting since becoming Colorado's "Coach Prime." A recent report from USA Today highlighted his unconventional methods.

Sanders has not made any off-campus recruiting visits since taking over as head coach at Colorado, which is rare among college football coaches. While others like Jim Harbaugh and Steve Sarkisian made numerous visits, Sanders has not utilized his allocated travel budget for private jet services.

Instead of traditional recruiting methods, Sanders has heavily relied on the transfer portal to build the Buffaloes' roster. This strategy differs from many of his peers in FBS football.

While Sanders' assistant coaches have conducted in-person visits with recruits, Sanders himself has not pursued this route. His coaching staff turnover indicates a shift towards hiring individuals with NFL backgrounds over college.

Despite his unconventional approach, Sanders has successfully recruited top prospects like Cormani McClain and Jordan Seaton to Colorado. His track record with high school recruits is impressive, even without in-home visits.

Sanders' aversion to traditional recruiting tactics could stem from various factors, such as health concerns or his belief that recruits should take the initiative. Regardless, his methods have proven effective in securing top talent for the Buffaloes.
